What are microaggressions and how do they affect mental health?

Microaggressions are subtle or indirect comments or behaviours that can feel dismissive, invalidating or discriminatory.

Everyday experiences

These might include comments about your background, identity or appearance that feel uncomfortable or minimising.

Emotional impact

Although they may seem small, repeated experiences can lead to:

  • stress and frustration

  • self-doubt

  • feeling unseen or misunderstood

Internalising experiences

Over time, these experiences can affect how you see yourself and your place in the world.

How therapy can help

Therapy offers space to process these experiences, understand their impact and rebuild a sense of self that feels grounded and authentic.

I offer a space to explore experiences of identity, difference and belonging within therapy.
